Earl Lawrence, Experimental Aircraft Association
Earl Lawrence joins us to talk about a new situation where pilots are getting crossed signals from the federal government. On one hand the FAA is demanding that pilots have emergency beacons and on the other the FCC is proposing to Prohibit the certification, manufacture, importation, sale, or continued use of 121.5 MHz emergency locator transmitters (ELT's) other than the Breitling Emergency Watch ELT." Of course most pilots already use the 121.5 MHz beacons. You decide whether to get frustrated or just laugh at the bureaucracy. Experimental Aircraft Association (6/22/10)

The FAA recently made a change to charting on the sectionals that makes special use airspace a little easier to interpret. Alert Areas have recently changed from being Blue in color to now being Magenta. This means that special use airspace is now easily sorted into areas that you must stay out of during certain times and areas you might want to stay out of. Jim Sweeney explains. Experimental Aircraft Association (6/15/10)
